Copyright balances authors’ and creators’ rights by protecting original works from most, but not all, copying and allowing unlicensed copying of some, but not all, parts of such works. The fulcrum of the balance is the copyright doctrine of fair use, and this 60 minute webinar explains that doctrine and its seeming trajectory in light of recent decisions and ongoing cases. By focusing on court cases with pop culture connections like Star Trek, Prince, Andy Warhol, Dr. Seuss, Stairway to Heaven, and other well known texts and creations the webinar makes the legal doctrines accessible and understandable to lawyers familiar with or new to intellectual property matters.
