Communication is the currency of lawyers, who are skilled in quickly sizing up a situation, choosing a course of action designed to accomplish a client’s goals and then advocating for the goals. However, the highly targeted process of legal communication in negotiation and advocacy can get in the way of accomplishing a lawyer’s goals in other contexts. This program will help you learn how to communicate strategically by expanding what you see and hear in any situation and how you respond. Strategic communication is a process designed to help you obtain the outcomes that you want. You will leave the program with tools to manage your hot buttons, use empathetic listening skills and manage your actions in ways that will maximize your chances of reaching your strategic goals. Learning to think and act strategically by improving your soft skills leads to improvement in business development, conflict management, negotiation, persuasion, and relationship building.
