This one-hour presentation is designed to identify and propose solutions to legal issues facing lawyers and law firms as the 2020 pandemic lockdowns end and a return to a “new normal,” whatever form that takes, begins. Among the topics to be discussed are the challenges and requirements of a return to bricks-and-mortar offices, including the establishment of return to work policies, physical safety arrangements for staff, clients and visitors; vaccination requirements, and accommodations for remote workers. For firms that intend to remain largely remote, a plethora of issues arise, such as state legal licensing requirements, data privacy, tax issues, workmen’s compensation for injuries sustained at home, and notarization of documents. Finally, we will discuss the pros and cons of remote practice vs. working in an office as long term strategies.
