Join Registered Patent Attorney Emil J. Ali as he discusses the good, bad, and ugly of the current state of being an ethical patent lawyer. 

This CLE will discuss current topics related to a patent lawyer’s duty with respect to compliance with the USPTO Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as the Rules of Practice in Patent Cases. Participants will learn about new cases and best practices with respect to subject matter conflicts, duty of disclosure, inequitable conduct, and supervising support staff through a review and in-depth understanding of the USPTO Rules of Professional Conduct and ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct (1.1, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 3.3, 5.3, 5.5). Participants will also learn about OED, the USPTO’s ethics regulator, and best practices for keeping in compliance with reporting.
