COVID-19 has exposed gaps in existing state price gouging laws and in the enforcement of those laws during a crisis of this magnitude. To address these gaps and respond to the country's concerns about the impact that supply shortages are having on essential goods needed by first responders and consumers, Congress is considering several price-gouging bills. If Congress is successful, many businesses currently not subject to price-gouging and hoarding regulations may find themselves in violation of one or more new federal laws. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Overview of current state price gouging requirements and gaps in coverage Survey of federal price gouging and anti-hoarding legislation Understanding federal and state enforcement efforts in response to COVID-19 Taking steps to ensure preparation for compliance with new laws
